Explanation
Used to express that something does not remain limited to one range or level, but extends further beyond it.
Usage
It attaches to words expressing a limited scope, field, or phenomenon. The following clause describes a wider range or a broader effect that goes beyond that limit.
Formation
Attach にとどまらず to a noun or to the dictionary form of a verb.
Examples
インターネットによる情報というものは、いまや国内にとどまらず、世界各地へ一気に広がる。
インターネットによるじょうほうというものは、いまやこくないにとどまらず、せかいかくちへいっきにひろがる。Information spread through the internet is no longer limited to within a country; it now quickly reaches all parts of the world.
農産物は、暴風雨で被害を受けた直後にとどまらず、年間を通してその影響を受け続ける。
のうさんぶつは、ぼうふううでひがいをうけたちょくごにとどまらず、ねんかんをとおしてそのえいきょうをうけつづける。Agricultural products are affected not only immediately after being damaged by a storm, but continue to suffer the effects throughout the year.
