N + に至るまで

Explanation

Used to emphasize that the scope of something extends even to an extreme, detailed, or unexpected point.

Usage

It attaches to nouns that represent something not usually singled out, and stresses how broad the range is. It often appears together with examples such as 〜はもちろん or 〜から to show the extent more clearly.

Formation

Attach に至るまで to a noun.

Examples

うちの高校は身だしなみに厳しい。制服の着方はもちろん、髪形や靴下の色に至るまで細かく注意される。

うちのこうこうはみだしなみにきびしい。せいふくのきかたはもちろん、かみがたやくつしたのいろにいたるまでこまかくちゅういされる。

My high school is strict about appearance. They warn us about everything in detail, from how we wear the uniform to even our hairstyle and the color of our socks.

今回の出張の予定表は実に細かい。集合時刻から機内での飲み物の配布時間に至るまで記されてある。

こんかいのしゅっちょうのよていひょうはじつにこまかい。しゅうごうじこくからきないでののみもののはいふじかんにいたるまでしるされてある。

The schedule for this business trip is incredibly detailed. It is written down from the meeting time to even the time drinks are handed out on the plane.

父の楽しみは料理です。材料も手作りでないと納得できないようで、たれやこんにゃくに至るまで自分でこしらえる。

ちちのたのしみはりょうりです。ざいりょうもてづくりでないとなっとくできないようで、たれやこんにゃくにいたるまでじぶんでこしらえる。

My father's pleasure is cooking. It seems he is not satisfied unless even the ingredients are handmade, so he makes everything himself, right down to the sauce and even the konnyaku.
