Explanation
Used to express that within certain limits or according to one's own ability, position, or condition, someone does as much as they can.
Usage
It attaches to things the speaker does not regard as especially high-level, and shows that even within that limited condition, some effort, attitude, or value exists accordingly.
Formation
Attach なりに to a noun, verb plain form, i-adjective plain form, or na-adjective stem.
Examples
あの子も子どもなりに家族のことを気づかって心を配っているのだ。
あのこもこどもなりにかぞくのことをきづかってこころをくばっているのだ。That child, in a child's own way, is also worrying about the family and showing consideration.
店の再建を目指して私なりに工夫もし努力もしたが、悪条件が重なって思うようには進まなかった。
みせのさいけんをめざしてわたしなりにくふうもどりょくもしたが、あくじょうけんがかさなっておもうようにはすすまなかった。Aiming to rebuild the shop, I did what I could in my own way, making efforts and trying various ideas, but unfavorable conditions piled up and things did not go as I had hoped.
彼は経験が乏しいなりに、懸命に誠実に仕事へ取り組んでいる。
かれはけいけんがとぼしいなりに、けんめいにせいじつにしごとへとりくんでいる。Even though his experience is limited, he is tackling his work earnestly and sincerely in his own way.
字は拙くても、拙いなりに心を込めて書けば、読む相手には思いがきちんと伝わるものだ。
じはつたなくても、つたないなりにこころをこめてかけば、よむあいてにはおもいがきちんとつたわるものだ。Even if your handwriting is poor, if you write with sincerity in your own imperfect way, your feelings will properly reach the reader.
少し欠けがあっても、この陶芸家の作った鉢ならそれなりの価値は十分にある。
すこしかけがあっても、このとうげいかのつくったはちならそれなりのかちはじゅうぶんにある。Even if it has a small chip, a bowl made by this ceramic artist still has value of its own.
