Explanation
Used to express that someone does an action with a certain purpose or aim in mind.
Usage
It is a literary or very formal written expression. It is used with important intentions or serious purposes, and the following clause also describes an intentional action. It is not used for commands or urging someone to do something. The subject before and after is the same.
Formation
Attach んがため or んがために to the nai-stem of a verb. With する, use せんがため or せんがために.
Examples
彼女は歌手になりたいという願いをかなえんがため、東京へ出て努力を重ねた。
かのじょはかしゅになりたいというねがいをかなえんがため、とうきょうへでてどりょくをかさねた。In order to fulfill her wish of becoming a singer, she went to Tokyo and continued making efforts.
虎が鹿を襲うのは残酷にも見えるが、虎は生きんがために、その行動を取るのである。
とらがしかをおそうのはざんこくにもみえるが、とらはいきんがために、そのこうどうをとるのである。A tiger attacking a deer may look cruel, but the tiger acts that way in order to survive.
自分の利益を守らんがための発言では、人の心を本当に動かすことはできない。
じぶんのりえきをまもらんがためのはつげんでは、ひとのこころをほんとうにうごかすことはできない。Words spoken merely in order to protect one's own利益 cannot truly move people's hearts.
