Explanation

Used to express that, from a certain position or from a moral standpoint, something is inappropriate and must not be done.

Usage

It is a stiff formal expression and is used only in fixed, conventional phrasing. A noun always follows it. It often criticizes behavior as unfitting for a certain role, status, or human relationship.

Formation

Attach まじき to the dictionary form of a verb, and place a noun after it.

Examples

その閣僚は公人にあるまじき言動で、ついに辞任へ追い込まれた。

そのかくりょうはこうじんにあるまじきげんどうで、ついにじにんへおいこまれた。

That cabinet member was driven to resign because of words and actions unbecoming of a public figure.

これは、子を育てる親として許すまじき行為である。

これは、こをそだてるおやとしてゆるすまじきこういである。

This is an act that should never be tolerated by someone in the position of a parent raising a child.

かけがえのない人に、私は口にするまじき言葉を投げつけてしまった。

かけがえのないひとに、わたしはくちにするまじきことばをなげつけてしまった。

I ended up hurling words at someone irreplaceable that should never have been said.
