Explanation
Used to express that something is so minor or obvious that there is no need to go so far as to do it.
Usage
It attaches to verbs expressing intentional actions. It often conveys that the action is unnecessary because the matter is easy, obvious, or already sufficiently clear.
Formation
Attach までもない to the dictionary form of a verb.
Examples
この程度の霧雨なら、わざわざ傘を開くまでもない。
このていどのきりさめなら、わざわざかさをひらくまでもない。If it is only this much drizzle, there is no need to go so far as to open an umbrella.
念のため申し上げるまでもないことですが、あしたの集合場所は中央口前の広場です。
ねんのためもうしあげるまでもないことですが、あしたのしゅうごうばしょはちゅうおうぐちまえのひろばです。It hardly needs saying, but tomorrow's meeting place is the square in front of the central exit.
予約しておいた旅館は駅を出たら探すまでもなく、すぐ目の前に見つかった。
よやくしておいたりょかんはえきをでたらさがすまでもなく、すぐめのまえにみつかった。As soon as I left the station, the inn I had reserved was right there in front of me, so there was no need even to look for it.
今さら言うまでもなく、学生にとっては学ぶ姿勢が何より大切だ。
いまさらいうまでもなく、がくせいにとってはまなぶしせいがなによりたいせつだ。It goes without saying now that for students, an attitude of learning is more important than anything else.
