Explanation
Used to express that even if something is the case, it does not matter and does not affect the conclusion.
Usage
It is a formal expression used to show that the following statement holds regardless of the condition mentioned before. It often appears with words such as たとえ or どんな.
Formation
Attach であれ or であろうと to a noun.
Examples
たとえ暴風雨の夜であれ、私は務めのためなら外へ出る。
たとえぼうふううのよるであれ、わたしはつとめのためならそとへでる。Even if it is a night of violent wind and rain, I will go out if it is for my duty.
どんな実力者であれ、やがては人生の終わりを迎える。
どんなじつりょくしゃであれ、やがてはじんせいのおわりをむかえる。No matter how powerful or capable a person may be, in the end they too will face the end of life.
事情が何であれ、無断での欠席は認められない。
じじょうがなんであれ、むだんでのけっせきはみとめられない。Whatever the circumstances may be, an absence without notice cannot be accepted.
君に会うためなら、たとえ炎の中、荒波の中であろうと、私はひるまない。
きみにあうためなら、たとえほのおのなか、あらなみのなかであろうと、わたしはひるまない。If it is to meet you, then even if it means being in flames or in raging waves, I will not shrink back.
