Explanation

Used to express that someone acts with the intention of doing something.

Usage

It is a written expression. It attaches to volitional verbs, and the following clause also describes an intentional action. It is not used for commands or urging someone to act. The subject before and after is the same.

Formation

Attach べく to the dictionary form of a verb. With する, use するべく or すべく.

Examples

彼は野球選手になるべく、毎日厳しい練習を積んでいる。

かれはやきゅうせんしゅになるべく、まいにちきびしいれんしゅうをつんでいる。

He is training hard every day in order to become a baseball player.

最新の設備を導入すべく、社長はいろいろ比較しながら検討している。

さいしんのせつびをどうにゅうすべく、しゃちょうはいろいろひかくしながらけんとうしている。

In order to introduce the latest equipment, the company president is examining various options while comparing them.

支援用ロボットを実用化すべく、私たちは今日も改良と実験を続ける。

しえんようロボットをじつようかすべく、わたしたちはきょうもかいりょうとじっけんをつづける。

In order to put support robots into practical use, we continue improvements and experiments today as well.
