Explanation
Used to express that under the circumstances, it is naturally impossible to do something.
Usage
It is often used with verbs of mental activity such as thinking, imagining, knowing, or denying. It conveys that there is no way one could possibly do so in that situation.
Formation
Attach べくもない to the dictionary form of a verb. With する, use するべくもない or すべくもない.
Examples
あの絵が模写であることなど、門外漢の私には知るべくもなかった。
あのえがもしゃであることなど、もんがいかんのわたしにはしるべくもなかった。There was no way for an outsider like me to know that the painting was a copy.
事情から見て、この男が犯人であることは疑うべくもない現実だろう。
じじょうからみて、このおとこがはんにんであることはうたがうべくもないげんじつだろう。Judging from the circumstances, the fact that this man is the culprit is something there is no room to doubt.
将棋歴三十年の名人に、経験の浅い私などかなうべくもない。
しょうぎれきさんじゅうねんのめいじんに、けいけんのあさいわたしなどかなうべくもない。There is no way someone as inexperienced as I am could stand a chance against a master with thirty years of shogi experience.
