Explanation
Used to express prohibition or that something must not be done.
Usage
〜べからず is a written expression mainly used on notices, warnings, and signs. 〜べからざる is a stiff formal expression used before nouns to describe something that must not be done or must not happen.
Formation
Attach べからず to the dictionary form of a verb. Attach べからざる before a noun.
Examples
【関係者以外立ち入りべからず】危険。ここから先へ入るべからず。
かんけいしゃいがいたちいりべからず。きけん。ここからさきへはいるべからず。[No entry except for authorized personnel.] Danger. Do not enter beyond this point.
「この場所で喫煙するべからず」という札が立っているのに、何人かたばこを吸っている人がいる。
このばしょできつえんするべからずというふだがたっているのに、なんにんかたばこをすっているひとがいる。Even though there is a sign saying 'Do not smoke in this area,' there are still several people smoking.
警察が今回このような不祥事を起こしたことは、市民にとって看過すべからざることだ。
けいさつがこんかいこのようなふしょうじをおこしたことは、しみんにとってかんかすべからざることだ。For the citizens, the fact that the police caused such a scandal this time is something that must not be overlooked.
経営者にとって決断力は欠くべからざる資質である。
