What the kanji quiz tests
JLPT kanji reading questions test whether you can produce the correct reading of a kanji word from memory, not just recognize it by sight. You'll also need to tell similar-sounding readings apart and know when a word uses its on'yomi or kun'yomi reading.
How to practice JLPT kanji
Read each word aloud and decide on a reading before you look at the options — guessing first is what makes it stick. Compare your answer against the four choices, and if you get it wrong, note the correct reading and meaning, then come back and try the same question again later. Repeating questions across multiple sessions is the fastest way to memorize kanji readings for good.
