Explanation
Used to describe the position of something relative to another thing, person, or place. Common position words include うえ (above/on), した (below/under), まえ (in front of), うしろ (behind), みぎ (right), ひだり (left), なか (inside), そと (outside), となり (next to), ちかく (near), あいだ (between).
Usage
Use when specifying the location of something in relation to another object or place. Depending on the context, に or で can follow the position noun.

N1 + の + N2(position) + に/で + Verb
Examples
本の上に ノートが あります。
ほんのうえに ノートが あります。There is a notebook on top of the book.
学校は 図書館の となりに あります。
がっこうは としょかんの となりに あります。The school is next to the library.
駅の ちかくで バスを 待っています。
えきの ちかくで バスを まっています。I am waiting for the bus near the station.
机の下に カバンが あります。
つくえのしたに カバンが あります。There is a bag under the desk.
