Pattern

The conjunction が is used to connect two sentences or clauses, with the meaning 'but.' It contrasts two statements.

Place が between two sentences to show a contrast. Both parts can be in polite or casual form.

Sentence 1 + が + Sentence 2

この本は面白いですが、長いです。

このほんはおもしろいですが、ながいです。

This book is interesting, but long.

公園は静かですが、少し遠いです。

こうえんはしずかですが、すこしとおいです。

The park is quiet, but a bit far.

天気はいいですが、寒いです。

てんきはいいですが、さむいです。

The weather is nice, but cold.
