Explanation
Indicates that something seems likely to happen or appear a certain way, based on what can be observed or inferred. Can also express the speaker’s judgment or prediction.
Usage
Used when describing what looks like it will occur, or when inferring qualities or states from visible clues.
Formation
Attach そうです to the stem of verbs (without ます) or to adjectives. For negatives, use 〜なさそうです. Some adjectives have exceptions (e.g., いい → よさそうです).
Examples
あの雲はもうすぐ雨を降らせそうです。
あのくもはもうすぐあめをふらせそうです。Those clouds look like they will bring rain soon.
このカレーはとても辛そうですね。
このカレーはとてもからそうですね。This curry looks very spicy.
彼は疲れているようですが、まだ元気そうです。
かれはつかれているようですが、まだげんきそうです。He seems tired, but still looks energetic.
