Explanation
Used to express a change in a thing, state, or situation. 〜くなります and 〜になります describe changes in quality, condition, or identity. 〜ようになります expresses that someone has reached the ability or habit to do something.
Usage
Attach くなります to い-adjectives, に + なります to な-adjectives and nouns. Use ようになります with verbs to express a new ability, habit, or situation. Exception: いい → よくなります.
Formation
い-adjective → 〜くなります; な-adjective/noun → 〜になります; verb (dictionary/ない form) → 〜ようになります／〜なくなります.
Examples
夜はだんだん寒くなります。
よるはだんだんさむくなります。It gets colder at night.
この部屋は静かになります。
このへやはしずかになります。This room will become quiet.
毎日漢字を練習するようになりました。
まいにちかんじをれんしゅうするようになりました。I’ve gotten into the habit of practicing kanji every day.
甘い物を食べなくなりました。
あまいものをたべなくなりました。I stopped eating sweets.
