Pattern

Indicates doing something as a secondary action while taking advantage of an opportunity created by another main action.

Used when two different actions are performed at the same time, with one being the main action and the other an intentional additional action.

Attach to a noun + の or the dictionary/past form of a verb.

図書館へ行くついでに、駅前のカフェで友達と会った。

としょかんへいくついでに、えきまえのカフェでともだちとあった。

On my way to the library, I met a friend at the café in front of the station.

出張で大阪に行ったついでに、有名なお好み焼き屋に寄った。

しゅっちょうでおおさかにいったついでに、ゆうめいなおこのみやきやによった。

While on a business trip to Osaka, I stopped by a famous okonomiyaki restaurant.

部屋を片付けるついでに、古い書類を整理した。

へやをかたづけるついでに、ふるいしょるいをせいりした。

While tidying up my room, I organized old documents.
