Explanation
Used to indicate just before, during, or just after an action happens.
Usage
The expression changes based on the verb form: dictionary form (just before), ている (in the middle), and た-form (just after). Depending on the verb that follows, particles like を, で, or へ may be used.
Formation
Attach to the appropriate verb form (辞書形, ている形, or た形).
Examples
ちょうど出かけるところです。
ちょうどでかけるところです。I'm just about to head out.
説明をしているところに、彼が突然入ってきた。
せつめいをしているところに、かれがとつぜんはいってきた。Just as I was explaining, he suddenly walked in.
ご飯を食べ終わったところで電話が鳴った。
ごはんをたべおわったところででんわがなった。Just after I finished eating, the phone rang.
レポートを書いているところを先生に見られた。
レポートをかいているところをせんせいにみられた。The teacher saw me while I was writing the report.
