〜(かの)ようだ／〜(かの)ように

Pattern

Used to express that something appears, feels, or seems like something else, or to compare by metaphor.

Often used when making figurative comparisons or describing how something seems, even if it's not literally true.

Attach ようだ or ように to a noun or the plain form of a verb/adjective. Use かのようだ for a more formal or literary tone.

その子の笑顔は、冬の朝日に照らされた花のようだ。

そのこのえがおは、ふゆのあさひにてらされたはなのようだ。

The child’s smile is like a flower lit by the winter morning sun.

試合が始まると、彼はまるで別人であるかのように動き始めた。

しあいがはじまると、かれはまるでべつじんであるかのようにうごきはじめた。

When the match began, he moved as if he were a completely different person.

空から白い羽が舞い降りたように雪が降っている。

そらからしろいはねがまいおりたようにゆきがふっている。

Snow is falling as if white feathers were dancing down from the sky.
