Pattern

Indicates the cause, method, or agent of an action. Also used to express differences depending on the case.

Formal expression. Often used in written or news-style language. Common with passive verbs and expressions of cause or means.

Attach to nouns. Use による + N to modify another noun.

新しい技術によって、生産性が大きく向上した。

あたらしいぎじゅつによって、せいさんせいがおおきくこうじょうした。

Thanks to new technology, productivity has significantly improved.

このイベントは学生による企画です。

このいべんとはがくせいによるきかくです。

This event was planned by students.

地域によって、使われている方言が大きく異なる。

ちいきによって、つかわれているほうげんがおおきくことなる。
